SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS

Ellen A. Kelley is an experienced teacher who offers lively and interactive book presentations to young readers. For school visits, she prefers the setting of a classroom or school library, where she can get to know her readers, answer their questions, and share with them the wonderful world of words. Currently Ellen offers the following presentations:

Can YOU BuckaMOO?
Join the author in this lively storytelling presentation. Say giddy-up! then head out on a wild ride with Susanna Bandana and Joanna Montana, the Buckamoo Girls. Children will read-aloud rhymes, learn real cattle calls and sing cow-style campfire songs (complete with guitar accompaniment) as they ride the range with the Buckamoo Girls.

Grades: 1-3
Time: 30-45 minutes not including book signings
Audience Size: Up to two classrooms, or 40 students

Stories Lizards Tell
Where do writers get their ideas? What is writing a book REALLY like? With the help of that irrepressible reptile, The Lucky Lizard, the author provides a lizard’s eye view of creating a story. Children will learn lizard language, participate in the measuring of the world’s largest lizard, and play the WHAT-IF game to find their very own characters, settings, and stories.

Grades: 2-5
Time: 30-50 minutes not including book signings
Audience Size: Up to two classrooms, or 40-50 students

You Might Not Know It…But You’re a Poet!
Poetry Workshops for Grades 3-6
Designed to unlock and unleash the power of poetry in the classroom, Ellen’s workshops electrify even the most reluctant of writers. Kids utilize all their senses as they discover movie-mind, shape-shift, and wild-write. Using props, music, energetic exercises, and read-aloud sample poems, Ellen helps students discover the joys of making poems.

Time: 30-50 minutes
Audience Size: One classroom, or 20-30 students
